Mathematics for Real Estate Appraisers

Introduction: This purpose of this handbook is to familiarize (or perhaps re-familiarize) real estate appraisers with the mathematics of their profession. Some of the material is basic mathematics that virtually everyone should know whether or not they are appraisers. Other material is more specific to an understanding of the steps used in processing data into reliable valuation conclusions.

It is acknowledged that many of the concepts included in this handbook can be handled easily with modern calculators and/or computers. Calculator keystrokes and computer software steps, however, are purposely not a part of this material. Instead, the emphasis is on the process that the calculator or computer employs so that the reader will be able to understand what procedure is taking place.
